Introducing Our New Personal Training Program
Specially Designed for Anyone Over the Age of 40, Small Groups, or Couples!
Gym intimidation is real, and it can be even more pronounced for older people, who may have been away from regular exercise for years, whether from injury, chronic conditions, or simply a busy lifestyle.
At MSK Centre, we understand your concern, which is why we’ve developed a specialized personal training program for adults 40 and older. It focuses on helping middle-aged or older adults feel stronger, move better, and live healthier lives. We’ve designed it so you’ll receive clear, expert guidance in a welcoming space where safety and support come first.
To help you understand the new program’s details, we’ve answered some frequently asked questions below. Have additional questions? Our friendly staff is happy to answer them!

What You Need to Know About Our 40+ Personal Training Program
Who is this program for?
People aged 40 and up who:
- Are new to exercise or returning after a long break
- Feel unsure or uncomfortable in a traditional gym
- Are recovering from injury or dealing with chronic joint or muscle issues
- Want support starting or progressing an exercise routine with confidence
- Live with conditions like osteoarthritis, mild neurological impairments, or long-term weight challenges
What Can I Expect During my First Appointment?
Before you ever start a workout session, you’ll undergo a one-on-one, comprehensive assessment to help us understand your unique needs and concerns. This appointment will include:
- A health and movement history review
- A baseline fitness assessment that evaluates strength, mobility, balance, and aerobic endurance
We then use this information to build a custom plan that matches your ability, preferences, and goals.
What Types of Exercises are Included in the Program?
Strength Training
- We’ll use resistance bands, free weights, or bodyweight to build muscle and support joints.
Cardiovascular Conditioning
- We’ll help you discover activities to improve heart and lung function, which is important for stamina and energy.
Mobility Work
- We’ll guide you through targeted stretching and controlled movements to increase your range of motion.
Balance and Coordination Drills
- We’ll show you exercises that train your body to stay stable and avoid falls.
Condition-Specific Training
- We’ll blend the above exercise types to create personalized programs to help manage specific concerns, such as weight difficulties, arthritis, or mild Parkinson’s disease.
How is This Different From Regular Gym Training?
- It’s clinically informed. Your trainer will collaborate with our physiotherapists and other health professionals to develop your workout plan.
- We design your program to improve specific health metrics, not just general fitness.
- Our plans consider pain levels, injury history, and additional medical guidance.
- There’s no pressure to perform. Instead, you’ll progress at a pace that works for your body.
Is it Safe to Exercise With my Condition?
In the vast majority of cases, yes. While some conditions may require additional guidance to help you avoid injury, regular physical activity offers immense physical, emotional, and cognitive benefits. It can:
- Reduce joint pain and stiffness
- Improve blood sugar and blood pressure levels
- Boost mood and reduce symptoms of anxiety or depression
- Increase energy and stamina
- Support brain health and reduce the risk of cognitive decline
- Strengthen muscles around painful joints, which improves function
Your trainer will work closely with you to ensure you’re never pushed beyond what’s reasonable for your situation, including adjusting the intensity or type of exercises based on your comfort and feedback.
Will I Be Working Alone or With Others?
All sessions are one-on-one with your trainer, which allows for better attention to detail and ensures your plan matches your needs precisely.
What is the Role of the Rest of the Team at MSK Centre?
Our trainers work closely with our other clinicians to ensure your training program matches your unique needs. They can monitor for symptoms or setbacks and will provide clinical goals to your trainer to help guide your program.
For example, let’s say you’ve finished a rehabilitation program after an injury. Our personal trainer will step in at the end of the program to transition you into a program to further build strength and function.

Announcing Our New 40+ Personal Training Program!
At MSK Centre, we know that getting back to regular exercise (or starting from scratch) can be intimidating, especially if you’re middle-aged or older. Fortunately, you’ve got a helping hand with our new personal training program.
Why Work with a Personal Trainer?
It’s not a secret that physical inactivity increases the risk of many chronic illnesses. Regular exercise can reduce joint pain, help with high blood sugar or blood pressure, and protect against age-related muscle decline.
Unfortunately, many people in midlife find traditional fitness centres overwhelming or unwelcoming. And if you’re managing a chronic condition (like arthritis), you may need some additional support to stay safe.
Our personal training program works to remove these barriers. Led by a kinesiologist and targeting people 40 and up, it can help you build strength, improve mobility, and reduce health risks that can develop as you age.
What sets us apart is that we tailor your workout plans specifically to your physical ability, medical history, and personal goals. Whether you’re managing osteoarthritis or just want to boost your wellness, we’re here to help!
What Does the Program Offer?
- Consultation with a physiotherapist as needed
- Supervised strength training adapted to each individual’s needs
- Balance and coordination exercises to reduce fall risk
- Mobility work to ease stiffness and support joint health
- Conditioning for improved cardiovascular capacity, including VO₂ Max testing
- Activity-specific training to support lifestyle and injury prevention
- Safe progression for those recovering from injury or managing chronic conditions
